Job Opportunity - Preserve Manager (rangeland management focus) - Santa Barbara County (Center for Natural Lands Management)

Do you have experience in rangeland management and conservation land stewardship including application of good management practices, endangered species monitoring, and nonnative species management? Do you have knowledge of southern California native plants and experience in managing habitats such as coastal sage scrub, annual grasslands and oak woodlands? Join the Center for Natural Lands Management (CNLM) in protecting conservation lands in perpetuity! Our Preserve Managers provide critical on-the-ground management of their own individual portfolio of preserves—each one representing increasingly rare habitats, fragile ecosystems, and endangered species.

Duties include, but not limited to: • Provide stewardship focused on rangeland management for the Gaviota Tarplant Ranch Preserve in Santa Barbara County including adaptive management of a grazing program that involves planning and implementation through monitoring and relationship maintenance with landowners, grazing operators, and others • Determine and implement, as appropriate, other vegetation management tools such as pesticide application, mowing, mechanical removal or prescribed burns. • Collaborate with the biological monitoring focused Preserve Manager to promote the protection, conservation, and expansion of Gaviota tarplant on the Preserve. • Monitor occurrences and populations of native, listed, and exotic species of plants and animals • Develop work plans, prepare annual reports, manage preserve budgets • Participate in acquiring new CNLM preserves which includes conducting cost analyses on new properties using CNLM’s iconic “PAR” process and app • Participate in CNLM’s team of accomplished stewardship professionals in California and Washington to improve best management practices for rare and endangered species in their native environments
