Job Opportunity - San Diego Preserve Manager (Center for Natural Lands Management)

Do you have experience in conservation land stewardship including application of good management practices, endangered species monitoring, and nonnative species management? Do you have knowledge of southern California native plants and experience in managing habitats such as coastal sage scrub and southern maritime chaparral? Are you an excellent communicator, collaborator, and proven self-starter?

Join the Center for Natural Lands Management (CNLM) in protecting conservation lands in perpetuity! Our Preserve Managers provide critical on-the-ground management of their own individual portfolio of preserves—each one representing increasingly rare habitats, fragile ecosystems, and endangered species.

Duties include, but not limited to: • Provide stewardship for a portfolio of CNLM preserves within and near the city of Carlsbad in San Diego County • Monitor occurrences and populations of native, listed, and exotic species of plants and animals • Practice adaptive management – updating management plans based on evidence, experience, and changing conditions • Develop work plans, prepare annual reports, manage preserve budgets • Conduct stewardship activities that could include occasional restoration or enhancement activities and integrated pest management including chemical control of exotics if needed and/or mechanical control • Participate in acquiring new CNLM preserves which includes conducting cost analyses on new properties using CNLM’s iconic “PAR” process and app • Participate in CNLM’s team of accomplished stewardship professionals in California and Washington to improve best management practices for rare and endangered species in their native environments
